Another case in point is Open Hand’s social entrepreneurship, Good Measure Meals™ (GMM). A gourmet meal program which is both calorie- and portion-controlled, GMM meets  the dietary needs of people with diabetes and related hypertension and is also ideal for people of means looking for a convenient and delicious way to manage their weight. Operating as a wholly-owned subsidiary, GMM not only directs 100% of its net proceeds back to Open Hand, but helps us extend our Comprehensive Nutrition Care™ model across the full socio-economic spectrum, ultimately enabling us to make an even greater impact on the quality of health in our community.
The Story Behind Good Measure Meals™
In 2005, Open Hand introduced Good Measure Meals™. This introduction reflected a growing trend for non-profits called social entrepreneurship. While Good Measure Meals™ is a separate business unit, 100% of the net proceeds it generates go to support the mission of Open Hand.

Open Hand invested in the development of a menu that would be compliant with the healthy eating guidelines established by the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association and the American Cancer Society. Good Measure Meals™ Executive Chef Dennis Graeff works closely with registered dietitian Charlotte A. Hayes to ensure that the meals are gourmet quality and nutritionally balanced. Each meal is balanced using nutrition analysis software. New recipes are always being tested to provide variety for meal plan subscribers.
Good Measure Meals™ is the only home-delivered meal plan in Atlanta that combines healthy, balanced nutrition with a gourmet menu and convenience. Fresh, ready-to-eat meals are delivered to homes and offices or dropped off for pick-up at over 40 locations throughout the metro Atlanta area. Customers include fitness-conscious individuals, diabetics and others with special dietary requirements and busy professionals who don’t have time to shop and cook.
Good Measure Meals™ has earned the endorsement of the Atlanta Bariatric Center and Emory Johns Creek Hospital.
